I never understand why Mulan is so popular in N. America. I am not saying it is not famous in China, but it is just a tiny part of the good historical stories we have, and it is not even confirmed to be real.

It's almost racist to not make Mulan a black woman at this point.

The trailer showed some "badass wahmen" like Brie Larson who is openly in the army as a female. So the makers of this remake not only spat in the face of the source material but spat in the face of the original??

Mulan is a tale about a woman having to pretend to be a boy to go in the army to protect her dad as well as save China. And the movie dealt with the actual attitudes of ancient China at the time. so Disney now wants to throw away all that plot development for yet another mary-sue character?

First, the Star Wars franchise, then Disney's own live-action adaptations and their original adaptations, and then then Marvel Cinematic Universe that saw the release of Captain Marvel. Now, the worst thing that this kind of s**t is happening is about to spread next towards Fox, Fox Searchlight, and Pixar. This s**t that Disney is facing is f**king horrible.

The previous animated version of Mulan got totally ripped in China. And China is the most important market now. They are basically saying the American (and every other market) doesn't matter. But they will kowtow to Winnie the Pooh. The irony in all this is, if they push the super woke feminist message, it'll still bomb in China. Even when it has all the "right" casting choices. It might even get banned. Time will tell if they have enough restraint not to put all the man shaming into their film. But then, if they don't, the rest of the world is going to start wondering why they force it into movies made for us.

There is no sjw things here this is strictly to make sure that this movie gets passed Chinese censors and the trailer has been shown in its entirety in China and the response has been really good there.

last i checked the director of this movie is the person who directed whale rider. which to me was an incredibly boring movie so i dont have much faith in this live action remake of mulan especially if they are not including the songs, mushu or shang.

When I bring up Mulan was likely more a part of Chinese myth rather than history I get backlash. Almost as much as modern indoctrinated Chinese when you mention any criticism of Chairman Mao.

Honestly, the one market that you absolutely cannot disrespect is definitely the Chinese market. A lot of people underestimate just how much money these companies make from the Chinese audience. That's why so many companies not only just film companies bend their knee to the wishes of the Chinese market. And you also have to remember that political correctness does not exist in China.
